︎ Where we were. With decades of experience in designing, manufacturing, and installing distilleries worldwide, the leadership at Los Angeles Distillery wanted to start bottling premium artisanal spirits under their own name.  

︎Where we wanted to be. LA Distillery wanted to be known as the makers of premium quality, small-batch artisanal spirits from the state of California.



︎ How we got there. For the multi-variant, limited-release spirits brand, we first researched consumer preferences when making a specialty purchase. We learned that customers considered consistent detail, brand transparency, and the age of the spirit to deem a bottle high-value.

 At the business end this meant having the ability to segment and market spirits in response to changing consumer trends and stay consistent with the overarching brand. We quickly learnt that aligning production and packaging costs (MOQs and economies of scale) with small batch releases was going to be a difficult task.

To solve for the above issue we introduced a tiered structure for brand positioning and communications.

We first captured the central idea of ‘exceptional distillation’ in the design of the logo, placed upon the next tier of communication, a visual representation of LA’s sun-kissed scenery intelligently merged with color scheme of the distillery’s copper and steel stills. Then, we designed a scalable information system that provided the details on each individual spirit.

This tiered information system allowed the business owners to keep their team lean and solve just once for big brand consistency, which also let them to keep packaging costs low. The system freed up time and space for LA Distillery to continuously learn from an ever-changing market and quickly respond with new product offerings and extablish themselves as a place of expertise.
